Pure Evil is the moniker of British street artist Charles Uzzell-Edwards (b. 1968, Wales). The grandson of Welsh painter John Uzzell-Edwards and great-grandnephew of the wartime Cabinet minister Sir Stafford Cripps, he moved to San Francisco in the early 1990s where he became immersed in the city's nascent street-art scene before returning to London in the mid-2000s. His best-known body of work, the *Nightmares* series — also called *I Dream of…* — depicts iconic 20th-century female faces (Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Bardot, Bowie) rendered in flat stencil colours with a single, unmistakable black tear bleeding from one eye.
Pure Evil works from his own studio and gallery in Shoreditch, East London.
