Pietro Sanna is an Italian contemporary artist and ceramicist, born in Sassari, Sardinia, and now based in York, England.
Originally trained in painting and collage, his practice shifted in 2014 during a degree in Contemporary 3D Craft at York College, where he began experimenting with ceramics as a core medium. Today he is best known for hand-built clay vessels that serve as storytelling mediums, treating form, texture and materiality as carriers of narrative rather than functional objects.
Sanna's work emphasises narrative-driven design, using clay's tactile properties to create asymmetrical, hand-built coil vessels and slip-cast multiples. He incorporates 24-carat gold lustre and rich glazes, bridging traditional craft with contemporary art, and sometimes uses the ceramic vessel itself as a support for paintings in three-dimensional space. He rejects mass production, prioritising individuality and the unpredictability of clay.
Since graduating, Sanna has participated in selected exhibitions and is represented by galleries such as Silson Contemporary Art, The Gallery Maldon and Saul Hay Fine Art. His ceramics were first acquired by Silson at a York Graduate Show.
