Donut, unlike the majority of Banksy's works, was never painted on the street. Donut (Strawberry) and Donut (Chocolate) were issued as editions of 299 signed prints soon after the original canvas was realised, as a reference to Krispy Kreme Doughnuts' financial difficulties in 2007, when it was forced to close 299 outlets.To preserve all of the cack-handed detail, the prints were created with an exceedingly fine screen. Donut was only available through an automated reservation service due to the great demand for prior Banksyprints. The machine chose 598 names at random and offered them first refusal to purchase a print.
