About This Work
In *Quad*, Andy Warhol distils his Pop ethos into a cool, graphic meditation on repetition and mass perception. Using screenprint’s mechanical precision—flat colour fields, crisp contours, and subtle registration shifts—Warhol transforms a familiar image into a four-part sequence that reads like both contact sheet and billboard. The serial format amplifies his central preoccupation: how celebrity, commodities, and news imagery circulate, fragment, and harden into icon. At once seductive and impersonal, *Quad* stages the tension between authorship and industrial production, inviting viewers to compare near-identical panels and locate meaning in minute variations. Positioned within postwar American consumer culture, the work remains acutely relevant to today’s image-saturated, algorithm-driven attention economy.
