About This Work

A model is photographed in her underwear for a 1951 perfume feature entitled "Scent of a Woman". Posing on a chair in front of a perfume-covered vanity, the model's gossamer, elongated arms, and pointed toes resemble those of a delicate ballerina.

About the Artist

Sir Norman Parkinson (1913–1990) was a British portrait and fashion photographer whose four-decade career transformed the aesthetic of 20th-century magazine work. Shooting for Harper's Bazaar, Vogue and Town & Country, he took models out of the studio into landscapes, streets and factories — humanising fashion photography and paving the way for the modern editorial image.
