Lightness of Being — Freedom Edition (2021) is Chris Levine's iconic portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II captured with eyes closed, an image that has become one of the defining royal portraits of the 21st century. Originally photographed in 2004 during an eight-second exposure for a Jersey Heritage commission marking 800 years of royal allegiance, the work is a profound meditation on stillness, presence, and the quiet majesty of a monarch at rest. This Freedom Edition — a diasec-mounted giclée print on aluminium composite panel, 90 x 70 cm, numbered from the edition of 1000 and carrying Levine's digital signature — was released in 2021 to mark the artist's ongoing exploration of light, consciousness, and timeless portraiture.
