Sonya Hurtado Photography
Sonya Hurtado images are conceived almost like paintings, full of colour and vibrancy, she doesn’t capture moments; she creates imaginary situations, blending themes of actuality with techniques of pop culture and the old masters.
Hurtado conveys through her work. “ My work is a tool to communicate; my thoughts are not always clear to express with words but they became clear when they start to materialise in a visual form”. Much of Sonya Hurtado’s work takes children as its subjects with images that appeal to adults and children alike. With her work, the viewer is left side by side confronted by the childhood innocence and the darkness of complex emotions faced by human nature.
Surrealism in her Art
Her art mixes photographs, illustrations and collages to tell stories. She is an exponent of shadow, light and colour. Many sources inspire her: from surrealist paintings to old paintings and graffiti, illustration and pop art, from film to music, to everyday street experiences.
